Spring can bring love, happiness, and peace, but also depression and anxiety. People all around the world face struggles during the months of March, April, and May. Spring is traditionally known for the colors and flowers blooming, but some may say it is more of a depressing time for them. The people, colors, and feelings will begin to change around them and it can force stress and anxiety on that person. There are ways that you can support your mental health as the seasons are changing.

Anxiety is one of the major pressures that an individual can feel during the Spring months. Stress and anxiety go hand-in-hand, but anxiety is an extreme amount of stress for a longer period of time. One way to manage anxiety in the Spring is to embrace the nature around you. Taking in the sunlight, doing outdoor activities, and inhaling fresh air can increase relaxation levels. Stress can be relieved through gardening, hiking, or walking. Another way of maintaining a low-stress level is through keeping a consistent sleep schedule. Waking up and going to sleep at the same time everyday can ensure that you will keep healthy sleeping habits. Avoiding caffeine, lowering screen time, and creating a relaxing environment can keep your mood significantly greater and stronger.

Depression can heavily affect a person’s mentality and feelings towards the warmer weather. Being alone and secretive instead of being active will only make the feelings worse. Go out, be with friends, try to have a good time, and forget about your worries even if it is just for a couple hours. Do something that will bring you joy instead of lying in bed and worrying – the more isolated you are, the more unhappiness you will feel. Start with little tasks and then work to achieve goals you’ve never believed you could. It may help if you do something good for someone else because it may boost your confidence and social skills. Allowing friends and family to help through your struggles is crucial to trying to overcome depression during the Spring. Communication about how you are feeling allows them to understand, which will help them to provide comfort to you.

Maintaining a healthy diet can increase mood and activity levels during Spring. Eating healthy will increase the ability to exercise and gain energy. Well-balanced meals are giving the body fats, oils, carbs, and a lot of other crucial molecules that are needed for the body’s life. Also, try to find a well-balance for you and not just necessarily your body. Eat what you want to eat to make both you and your body happy.

Another important mental health tip for Spring is to find a good group of friends. Having a support system that is there for you will give you the confidence to talk to tell them exactly how you are feeling. Lending someone your ear while they are struggling can provide help to that individual in ways that you may not even begin to imagine. Surrounding yourself with supportive and encouraging individuals will force you to forget about your worries when you are surrounded by them. Be the shoulder that is strong enough to hold 10,000 tears.
