Mary Fauerbach, freshman
Spring sports have been awakened once more as the spring season has made a comeback, bringing with it Track and Field, Softball, Baseball, and much more. Palisades High School has a variety of sports for all seasons, especially spring.
Some of the sports this Spring are Track and Field, Softball, Baseball, and Field Hockey.
So far, the softball season has been overall very successful as they just recently welcomed new freshmen who added skill to the team instead of being benched, as most freshmen are starting for the season. One of the freshmen, Kendra Litzenburger, is even pitching, and two others are catching while some rotate in and out of the infield. After last season, the girls have a high standard to accomplish. Last season, Karlye Teman, who was known for her excellent skills and technique in pitching, resulted in 1000 strikeouts! The loss of Karlye Teman raises questions as to whether or not the softball team would continue its winning streak.Although they have not had a significant amount of victories, they have had more wins than losses–even beating Southern Lehigh, one of their biggest opponents.
This is unlike the Track team, who unfortunately lost to Southern Lehigh; they are triple in size compared to Palisades track team. Despite this, the Track and Field season has been a good season altogether; however, the problem of not having enough runners for certain events is very prominent and affecting the team. This especially shows in the girls’ team in regards to lacking competitors. In just one of their more recent meets, when Palisades was going against Notre Dame and Moravian, there weren’t enough girls to compete in one of the opening events. This is unlike the boys’ team, who are set for the season as they have won almost all of their events and will most likely make it to districts. This is because of the talented people who make up the team, some of them making it into the top ten sprinters in the state. Palisades High School has even been setting new school records, specifically Silas Day. Day managed to break the school record in discus throwing, originally set at 155′ 1/2” he beat it with an impressive 158’.
All together, the spring sports have been going well and have been an exciting experience for students, teaching them lessons and giving them the ability to explore their talents and capabilities.
