On Saturday, February 28, thousands of American soldiers aimed to hit regions across Iran, starting the first attack of the Iranian and U.S. war. “Operation Epic Fury” was approved by President Donald Trump and involved more than 100 attacks in 24 hours.
The first attacks

The military received its order on February 27th at 3:38 pm from Trump, messaging the troops, “Operation Epic Fury is approved. No aborts. Good luck.” The military first used cyber attacks to cut off Iran and make it impossible for it to communicate.
The first official attack was on February 28th, at 9:48 am. The Navy launched Tomahawk missiles that struck southern Iran. The maneuver was similar to the attack on their nuclear facilities in June. According to Gen. Dan. Caine, B-2 bomber jets launched for a round mission to the iran to hit underground facilities and conduct more than 100 attacks in 24 hours. This attack involved thousands of soldiers, hundreds of planes, and two aircraft carriers. Iran’s death toll is rapidly growing.
Iran counterattacks

Iran released counterattacks that have officially killed 4 American soldiers. Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, said they were killed when an Iranian missile broke through air defenses and hit an operations center. Iran launched a retaliatory barrage of missiles and drones at the U.S. allies in the Middle East. They also targeted the American bases and troops in the area. While some planes did crash into civilian areas, Caine said Patriot and air defenses had intercepted thousands of missiles.
Parsi, an expert with contacts in Iran’s government and security services, told USA TODAY, “They don’t have to win the war; they have to ensure Trump’s presidency is on the brink of destruction before they lose. That’s when they believe Trump will pull out – due to the costs.” They have shot down ideas to negotiate with President Trump, and they have said that Trump has plunged their region into chaos.
While things are still playing out, both countries go back and forth on whether to create peace. Trump says they are not ready to make terms, while Iran only wants to create peace with conditions put in place.
