Cabin Fever: “irritability, listlessness, and similar symptoms resulting from long confinement or isolation indoors during the winter” (Google). Winter months can be a drag, especially February and early March. Many people get through these months just with the hope of spring around the corner. But there are things you can do in these dull winter months. It is important to go out and experience, especially when you feel there is nothing to do. Winter does not have to be a drag! But, you may ask, what can I do in these cold months?

Our community offers many things to do, even in the middle of winter. For example, let’s say you’re bored and just need to get out of the house. Many towns surround our area, including Frenchtown, NJ, The Promenade in Saucon Valley, Doylestown, etc! Even just walking around a town gives you a reason to get out of your house. Maybe you want a day planned out. Go to the movies, follow up with lunch or dinner. Also, starting your day on a good note is vital, so try visiting a place for breakfast.
Along with cold months, there is snow. Snow can be bad or good, depending on what you make of it. While it stops you from going to some places, it also brings some fun! Gather some friends and go sledding. Try a new snow sport. Many enjoy skiing and snowboarding. It gives a reason to look forward to winter and take advantage of that snow! Go up to a mountain and give it a try, who knows what it could bring to you! Winter can also be a good time to try something new.

If you are not willing to fight this cold, there are also many things you can do at home. Pick up a new hobby at home, maybe start reading. Start crafting. Pick up that instrument that you always thought about playing but never did. Try a new recipe, cook dinner for family and friends! When these cold months are upon us we tend to get down on ourselves and sit around; that is when it’s most important to do something. Give working out a try. Even if it is just going out for a walk, it is going to boost your mood. When working out, dopamine is released, which is literally called the “happy hormone.” So try working out!
The winter gives us so much extra time to do things, yet we choose this time to be our least productive. By getting out and being active, or even just doing an activity at home, you’ll be able to look back at your day and feel more productive. Filling up your winter with things to do will make it go by quicker, and not only that, but you’ll have less time to sit around and wish that it was warm out!
