It’s that time of year to audition for Palisades High School’s annual spring musical: The Addams Family. Auditions will be held December 19-21 and audition papers can be found outside Mr. Hong’s room (room 114).

This dark and gloomy show is a little different than the movies about the Addams family. Wednesday has grown up and fallen in love with a surprisingly normal man but her family does not know. Wednesday tells her father about this mystery man and tells him to not tell her mom. Gomez, Wednesday’s father, has a hard time with this since he always tells his wife, Morticia, everything and now must keep a secret from her. The whole family must act normal for one night for Wednesday’s lover’s family. Will they act normal, or will something go wrong? Can Gomez keep a secret from Morticia? All will be answered in the show on February 29th -March 2nd.

At Palisades, the audition process might seem scary, but it is very easy. On the first day is the audition, you will pick a call time and go into the choir room. You may bring your packet, but do not depend on it. In this audition, you will sing your chosen song (as selected by your character) and sing in front of Mr. Hong and Coach Dawn. After you sing, you will then read your lines. Take a breath because you are done the audition! The first audition day is the most important, so be prepared, have confidence, and really portray your character.

The next day is the dance callback. In a musical, there is a lot of dancing. Mr. Hong will send out a video of choreography for you to practice. At the dance call, you will do the dance in different groups. Dance with confidence and facial expressions, and you will be golden!

The last day is the callbacks. This is by invitation, so if Mr. Hong sends you an email with your name in it, you must show up. Here, you will sing and read for various characters. It might not be the character that you auditioned for, but still go all out with it. After that, the cast list will come out and the show process begins right after Christmas break.

In auditions, it is important to have confidence. If you are confident, you will likely have a better chance at the character that you want. If you are interested in auditioning, grab an audition packet, scan the QR code, fill out the audition form, and have the confidence to take the leap! The PHS theatre company hopes to see you at the graveyard for this spooky upcoming show!
